May 31 is the day of remembrance of the victims of political repression. On this day, the whole country remembers our compatriots who became victims of political repression. We know what political repression is in Kazakhstan, our country has experienced a difficult situation of forced collectivization.
May 31 is one of the saddest pages in the history of Kazakhstan – mass political persecution and famine, which led to the deaths of millions of people.
Over the years of persecution, more than 5 million people were sent to camps established on the territory of Kazakhstan.
"Today we remember those who suffered from hunger during the years of collectivization, as well as those who were forced to leave their homeland. The enormous human sacrifices and the fate of those years wounded the heart of every citizen.
The Kazakh land has become a blessed place for representatives of many nationalities affected by totalitarianism. "Thanks to the courage and endurance inherited from our ancestors, we have withstood the ordeal with honor and had the opportunity to unite as a single people," President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said in his address on the occasion of the Day of Remembrance of Victims of Political Persecution and Holodomor.
About 100 thousand Kazakhs went through persecution. 20 thousand were shot. Among the state and public figures, the national intelligentsia include A. Bokeikhan, A. Baitursynuly, M. Tynyshbayev, M. Dulatuly, T. Ryskulov, M. Zhumabaev, S. Seifullin, I. Zhansugirov, B. Mailin, S. Asfendiyarov. they were innocently punished.
