Greatings from the Dean of the School of Chemical Engineering

Dear prospective students, parents, and visitors of our website,

Welcome to the official page of the School of Chemical Engineering at the Kazakh-British Technical University (KBTU)!

If you are thinking about your future, striving for knowledge, and want to become a specialist capable of solving real-world challenges, then chemical engineering might be the right choice for you. This field lies at the intersection of science, technology, and industry—where solutions are created that drive economic growth and improve the quality of life for millions.

The School of Chemical Engineering (SCE) is a place where fundamental knowledge meets practical skills, where students are taught by recognized experts, and where every student is given the opportunity to realize their full potential. We train professionals who are in demand both in Kazakhstan and abroad—in leading international companies and research centers.

Our academic programs meet high international standards and regularly undergo independent accreditation to ensure their quality.

Graduates of SCE have built successful careers at companies such as KazMunaiGas, TengizChevroil, NCOC, Schlumberger, Petrofac, and many continue their studies in master's and PhD programs at top universities around the world—in the UK, Japan, Sweden, and other countries.

Why choose Chemical Engineering? Because it is the profession of the future. The world is changing rapidly, and the science of substances, materials, and the technologies for their production is becoming key to solving global challenges—from energy security to sustainability and environmental protection. Chemical engineers are at the forefront of innovation.

SCE offers you a pathway to an international career, opportunities in research, involvement in real-world projects, and the chance to make a positive impact on the world around you.

I wish you inspiration, determination, self-confidence, and the wisdom to make the right choice! We will be glad to see you among our students!

About the School of Chemical Engineering

The School of Chemical Engineering (SCE) is a structural division of Kazakh-British Technical University (KBTU). It was established in 2010 based on the Department of Chemical Engineering (founded in 2004) to organize educational, scientific, and industrial activities in chemical engineering and petrochemistry.

KBTU has received international accreditation for the program "Chemical Technology of Organic Substances" as part of its engineering programs in the United Kingdom. Accreditation was granted by the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST)—the world’s largest institute of its kind, accredited under the Royal Charter and licensed by the UK Engineering Council.

Mission of the School

To train highly qualified professionals in modern technologies for oil and gas processing, polymer materials, synthesis of organic and petrochemical substances, and petrochemistry—focusing on innovative development of Kazakhstan's vital oil refining and petrochemical sectors.

Core Activities

SCE focuses on preparing competitive specialists at the bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD levels in chemical engineering in accordance with modern national and international standards of science and education.

Objectives:

  • Enhancing educational processes and teaching methodologies;
  • Applying international standards and modern information technologies in training;
  • Equipping the School with advanced instruments and equipment to improve the efficiency and level of research;
  • Promoting international cooperation to implement joint research and education projects;
  • Launching joint master’s and doctoral programs with leading global universities;
  • Increasing the competitiveness and relevance of faculty research outcomes.

The organizational structure includes 8 academic departments, 6 specialized research laboratories, and computer classrooms. Educational activities at the School of Chemical Engineering are supported by the scientific expertise of two research institutes: the A.B. Bekturov Institute of Chemical Sciences and the D.V. Sokolsky Institute of Fuel, Catalysis, and Electrochemistry.
