The Institute of Chemical Sciences was organized in May 1945 on the basis of the chemical laboratories of the Chemical and Metallurgical Institute. From 1946 to 1968 The Institute was headed by Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR A.B. Bekturov. In accordance with the decisions of the Academic Council of our institute and the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR, the Decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated July 5, 1991 No. 412, in order to perpetuate the memory and in connection with the 90th anniversary of the birth of Academician A.B. Bekturov, his name was given Order of the Red Banner of Labor to the Institute of Chemical Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

At present JSC "Institute of Chemical Sciences named after A.B. Bekturov" (ICS) is a subsidiary of JSC "Kazakhstan-British Technical University" (KBTU).

The staff of the Institute carries out current scientific programs based on the needs of the country's economic and social development, taking into account the trends in the development of world science.
