One of the main aspects of student life at KBTU is participation in the activities of the KBTU Student Union (Student Government House of Schools, House of Student Clubs and Communities). There are 35 student clubs and communities, offering students broad opportunities to explore their interests and hobbies beyond the educational program, develop and self-actualize in various fields such as science, sports, culture, social activities, entrepreneurship, and startups. This allows students to expand their social circle, communicate with like-minded individuals, and gain practical experience in their chosen areas.
The Student Fee (undergraduate student fee) is intended to support and develop student projects and initiatives in the following areas:
1. Intellectual and Scientific Development is one of the key areas supported by the Student Fee. Students have the opportunity to engage in scientific research, participate in conferences and symposiums, exchange experiences with other students and professors, and join professional associations. Students can also join one of the 11 student clubs, such as the KBTU SPE Chapter, Enactus, Hult Prize, Student Excellence, Society of Exploration Geophysicists, AICHE (American Institute of Chemical Engineers Student Chapter at Kazakh-British Technical University), which are aimed at developing leadership, communication, and other important skills.
2. Sports Development is also an important part of student life at KBTU. Thanks to the various sports clubs (football, basketball, volleyball, boxing, taekwondo, table tennis, chess, etc.), students can engage in physical activities and make new friends among like-minded individuals. Additionally, sports sections help students maintain their health and physical fitness. This area is also supported by clubs such as Mountain Kings, KBTU Knights, Cybersport, Chess Tournament.
3. Cultural and creative development is also supported by the Student Fee. Thanks to 18 clubs and communities, such as ArtHouse, Faces, BigCityLights, Bijutsu, Crystal, Өрен, students have the opportunity to engage in music, dance, theater, drawing, and other arts. This helps students realize their creative potential and participate in concerts, competitions, and other events.
4. Social development, entrepreneurship, and startups are also supported by the Student Fee. Clubs and projects aimed at charity, technological entrepreneurship and startups, social integration, forming ecological thinking, and ESG skills, volunteering, and other areas also receive funding from the student fee. Clubs include the KBTU Startup Incubator Unit, Volunteer Corps, Eco Community, Game Lab, Mentoring (Game Project Mentoring Program), Uniq, KBTU Liberty of Voice, InterStud, and others.
In accordance with Article 63, paragraph 3 of the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On Education," KBTU has the right to provide paid services beyond the requirements of state compulsory education standards, namely: organizing and conducting various events, such as sports competitions, seminars, meetings, conferences among students and teachers, and the general public, as well as developing educational and methodological literature; providing the use of musical instruments and additional internet services.
Thus, the Student Fee is paid by the student once upon admission to the university and amounts to 50,000 tenge, of which:
10,000 tenge is the entrance fee
40,000 tenge is the student fee
KBTU adheres to the principles of informational openness, transparency, and public accountability. Information on the distribution of the Student Fee and a list of projects supported by the Fund are available for students and the public to review.
