On November 3, 2023, the Scientific Library of KBTU JSC hosted the Second International Seminar – MegaPro School, dedicated to topical issues of automation of university libraries in Kazakhstan and the experience of practical work with AILS MegaPro
The seminar was held jointly with the company "Date Express" (Moscow, Russia) – the developer of the popular library system AILS "MegaPro", it was a continuation and development of the Seminar – School MegaPro, held at JSC "KBTU" on June 7 this year.
The seminar was held in offline and online formats, it was attended by more than 90 representatives of university and academic libraries of Almaty, Astana, Karaganda, Aktobe, Kyzylorda, Kokshetau, Taraz, Rudny, Atyrau.
The seminar was attended by leading specialists of Date Express IIC who arrived in Almaty, who presented new opportunities for automation of information and library technologies.
The seminar program was quite rich and productive.
The participants of the seminar were presented with an innovative, the first in Kazakhstan, cloud service for library automation – Bibliohosting KZ, operating on the basis of Transtelecom JSC (Astana), one of the largest data centers in the country.
The specialists of Date Express IIC showed the new capabilities of MegaPro AILS implemented in the current versions, as well as integration and discovery solutions.
The participants were particularly interested in the speech of a specialist of the KBTU Scientific Library about the experience of implementing Face-ID technologies in KBTU MegaPro AILS, which provided the library with a transition to a new high-quality level of user service. To date, it is one of the first Libraries among the universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which introduced Face-ID technology into the library system at AILS MegaPro.
In the second part of the seminar, our partners from Date Express IIC held a master class on some topical issues of using MegaPro AILS.
In the final part of the seminar, an exchange of views, answers to questions, consultations of users of AILS "MegaPro" took place.
Following the results of the seminar, proposals were made on further cooperation of libraries of universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan in order to develop library and information technologies and provide modern services for readers.
It was proposed to hold seminars – Schools of MegaPro, conferences and other events on this topic on an ongoing basis.
Thanks to the efforts of the KBTU library staff and the attention of the University management, a comfortable working atmosphere and optimal conditions for constructive dialogue and exchange of experience were created for the seminar.
