The fifth meeting of the Advisory Board of Kazakh-British Technical University took place on October 11.

KBTU plans for 2019-2020 academic year were announced at the Board meeting. KBTU Rector Kenzhebek Ibrashev presented his report on the University development strategy for 2019-2023. Among other issues there were questions on launching and program realization of the “Industrial Project Management and Engineering” Program considered with the support of the Italian Energy Company Eni, EniProgetti and “Corporate University Eni”, on opening of the Honeywell Automation Centre in KBTU, and on strengthening cooperation with Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools (NIS was represented by Chairman of the Board Kulyash Shamshidinova).

Besides, awarding of KBTU honourary distinctions was  held there. Thus, the diploma of Doctor Honoris Causa was awarded to Adil Kurmanzhanovich Akhmetov – a merited Kazakhstani state and public figure, a scientist, diplomat and the first Rector of KBTU.

The aim of the Advisory Board representing the entire spectrum of Kazakhstan’s economy is the assistance in formation of KBTU development strategy as a leading scientific-educational and innovative cluster of RoK.

The main tasks of the present Advisory body are:

• Strengthening and improvement of effectiveness of KBTU collaboration with business structures in educational operations;

• Participation in the formation of the strategy and perspective directions of the development;

• Consideration of new educational programs for higher, post-graduate and further vocational education according to modern tendencies of the market, defining the demanded specialties and the relevant cohort;

• Recommendations on the plans of infrastructure development, as well as on mutual preparation and personnel development;

• Assistance in accessing the organizations of energy, information technology and finance and economy sectors of the country by the academic teaching staff for familiarization and studying contemporary technologies and systems;

• Implementation of modern educational technologies and tools of the top world practices;

• Transfer of experience and techniques of scientific and commercial operations “idea-science-business”.

The KBTU Advisory Board consists of the representatives of such organizations as: KAZENERGY Association, SPE “Atameken”, NC “KazMunayGas” and its affiliate companies, NCOC, Chevron, Tengizchevroil, ExxonMobil, Agip Caspian Sea BV, CNPC – Aktobemunaygas, KPO, CPC, Schlumberger, Honeywell, Deloitte, EY, National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Halyk Bank, MFC “Astana”, ACCA, British Council, NWF “Samruk Kazyna” and its affiliate companies, as well as “NAC “Kazatomprom” and others. The Chairman of the Advisory Board is the Managing Director of Agip Caspian Sea BV, Nicolo Aggogeri.

KBTU conducts work on enhancing the employers’ influence as on the strategic development of the University, as on improvement of the quality of the graduate specialists via implementation of the requests and recommendations of the Advisory Board members into academic and scientific-research plans.

Launching of the Advisory Board of the University reflects the message of the first President of RoK N.A. Nazarbayev on the necessity of linking the industry and education as well as arranging the long-term cooperation of KBTU with the biggest employers of the country.
