Professor Chokan Laumulin of KBTU has been re-elected for a second term as Vice-Chairman of the Committee on Sustainable Energy of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE).

In his speech, Professor Laumulin emphasized the significance of the national referendum on the construction of nuclear power plants in Kazakhstan, the upcoming SPECA forums in Dushanbe, and COP-29 in Baku, highlighting their importance for both regional and global energy sectors, as well as for Kazakhstan's goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2060 in accordance with the Paris Agreement.

He also outlined key areas of work for 2025 and beyond, including the establishment of a UNECE Competence Center at KBTU, hosting the next Almaty Energy Forum under the auspices of UNECE, and developing scientific research in the field of cryogenics, superconductivity, and non-silicon electronics through the Group for New Superconducting Materials, created in collaboration with the Cavendish Laboratory, a department of physics at the University of Cambridge in the UK.

We congratulate Chokan Turarovich and wish him great success in his future endeavors!
