In 2025 Kazakhstan will celebrate the 180th anniversary of the great poet, philosopher and national enlightener Abay Kunanbayev. In preparation for this significant event, KBTU Student Union students came up with an initiative to assign honorary names to social objects of KBTU infrastructure, reflecting the concept of "Tolyq Adam". This initiative, aimed at the preservation and development of Abay's spiritual heritage, was supported and approved by the decision of the Academic Council of KBTU JSC, which emphasizes its importance and relevance for the university community.
The students' initiative is not accidental and reflects a new wave of perception of Abay's heritage among the youth. The modern generation, living in conditions of rapid change, finds in the messages of the great thinker not only eternal truths, but also guidelines for personal and social development. In the context of global challenges, such as sustainable development, social justice and ESG-principles (Environmental, Social, and Governance), Abai's legacy acquires special significance, becoming an integral part of the educational process.
The world faces a multitude of challenges, from environmental crises to social justice issues. In this context, a change in thinking and a return to cultural roots become an urgent need. As noted by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kasym-Jomart Tokayev in his article "Abay and Kazakhstan in the XXI century", Abay's concept of "perfect man" should become the basis for all spheres of life, including public administration, education, business and family relations. This emphasizes the importance of building quality human capital, which is a key factor in addressing modern challenges.
The Abai precept «Үш-ақ нәрсе — адамның қасиеті: ыстық қайрат, нұрлы ақыл, жылы жүрек...». - These are the three key qualities that the great thinker considered fundamental for a human being: diligence, honesty, inquisitive mind and kindness. These qualities, embodied in the concept of "Tolyk adam", are the basis for the formation of competencies of a modern young specialist capable of successfully operating in the conditions of global changes.
Now these values are reflected in KBTU's initiative, under which the university will soon have new infrastructure facilities: "YSTYQ QAIRAT Sports Complex", "NURLY AQYL Scientific Library" and "JYLY JÜREK Student Space". These names, inspired by the concept of "Tolyk Adam", symbolize not only a tribute to Abay's legacy, but also a desire to introduce his ideas into the modern educational environment.
The names of these facilities are not just symbols. They reflect the university's mission to educate a new generation of responsible and moral leaders. In conditions when people become the most important capital, only through the formation of "right people" with high moral and professional qualities, it is possible to ensure sustainable development of all spheres of the national economy. Universities, including KBTU, play a key role in this process, graduating specialists who can become the driving force of progress and prosperity of the country.
Thus, the initiative to assign honorary names to the KBTU infrastructure objects is an important step towards the implementation of Abay's ideas in the educational environment, aimed at the formation of future leaders who are able to act responsibly and effectively in the face of global challenges, remaining faithful to spiritual and moral values.
