Visa Support

 

  1. Foreign students from far abroad come to Kazakhstan only after receiving a study visa at the Embassy of Kazakhstan.
  2. Foreign students from the CIS countries and the EAEU arrive without a visa, but upon arrival in Kazakhstan, they must obtain a temporary residence permit (TRP).

 

1. Study visa for students from far abroad

Step 1. Receiving an invitation letter

Foreign students from non-CIS countries are eligible for a student visa to Kazakhstan only after receiving an appropriate letter of invitation.

 A letter of invitation for foreigners is issued by the university in the Migration Police of Almaty.

 In accordance with the Migration Rules of the Republic of Kazakhstan, primary visas of category "C9" are issued in foreign institutions of Kazakhstan (Embassy or Consulate of Kazakhstan abroad). A study visa (C9) is not issued upon arrival, despite the visa-free regime with some countries (with the exception of ethnic Kazakhs traveling to the Republic of Kazakhstan for the purpose of study).

The state fee for issuing an invitation letter is 1681 tenge (2022)

To receive an invitation letter, the student must submit the following documents to the Department of Internationalization:

• Scan of the passport;

• If the student permanently resides outside the country of his/her citizenship and plans to apply for a visa from there, then you must provide a multiple-entry visa or residence permit for that country;

• residential address;

The term of consideration of the letter of invitation takes 5-7 working days

Step 2. Applying for a visa

After receiving the letter of invitation, the student submits all necessary documents to the embassy / consulate of Kazakhstan abroad.

 As a rule, the following documents are required:

• A copy of the letter of invitation for a visa;

• Passport (valid for at least 6 months beyond the requested visa and having at least 2 blank pages for the visa stamp);

•Copy of the passport

• Completed visa application form (can be found on the Internet or at the Embassy of Kazakhstan);

• 1 photo - 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm.

Visa fee - 200 USD (multiple annual visa).

Visa processing time: 5 business days

Extension of a student visa in Kazakhstan

 To extend a visa in Kazakhstan before its expiry date, please submit the following documents to the DI 30 working days in advance or at least 10 working days before the visa expires:

The passport;

One photo (3.5 cm x 4.5 cm).

Completed visa application form (to be completed at the DI office)

State fee for a visa (multiple entry visa - 93085 tenge)

 

2. Temporary residence permit (TRP) for students from the CIS and the EAEU

 CIS students arriving in Kazakhstan for more than 30 calendar days require a temporary residence permit (TRP). To obtain a Temporary Residence Permit, the student must submit his/her passport to DI within 30 days.

 

 

Upon arrival

Student must:

1. Get IIN number (Individual identification number);

2. Pass a nostrification/ recognition procedure during their first semester of study at

KBTU, It costs nearly 70 USD;

3. Get medical certificate form 075/y (previously form 086/y), approved by order No. 907;

4. Get certificate of laboratory examination for HIV infection, hepatitis B and C.

What the scholarship covers:

  •  Education (4 years for bachelor's degree, 2/1.5 years for master's degree, 3 years for doctoral studies)
  • Monthly scholarship (36,660 tenge for undergraduate students, 86,987 tenge for master students, 195,000 tenge for doctoral students)

Bachelor degree:

  • Passport;
  • A document on the previous level of education with a transcript and supplement (if available) and a notarized translation into Kazakh or Russian or English (for applicants for a bachelor's degree - the average score of the document confirming secondary education with a grade of at least "good" );
  • Motivational essay in Kazakh or Russian or English;
  • A letter of recommendation in Kazakh or Russian or English from the educational organization in which the applicant studied, or from the employer;
  • A medical certificate for study abroad, as well as a medical certificate confirming the absence of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV infection) and AIDS, issued by official health authority of the applicant's country of residence;
  • Application form;
  • Letter of invitation from the Kazakhstan university (if available).

 

 

Master degree:

  • Passport;
  • A document on the previous level of education with a transcript and an appendix (if available) and a notarized translation into Kazakh or Russian or English (bachelor's or specialist diploma with an average score of at least 3.0 (out of 4.0) GPA or its equivalent obtained in educational institutions;
  • Motivational essay in Kazakh or Russian or English;
  • 2 letters of recommendation in Kazakh or Russian or English from the educational organization in which the applicant studied, or from the employer;
  • A medical certificate for study abroad, as well as a medical certificate confirming the absence of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV infection) and AIDS, issued by official health authority of the applicant's country of residence;
  • Application form;
  • Letter of invitation from the Kazakhstan university (if available).
  • An international certificate confirming knowledge of a foreign language:

English: IELTS Academic (International English Language Testing System Academic) threshold score - at least 5.5;

TOEFL IBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-based test), threshold score - at least 46;

TOEFL PBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language Paper-based test), threshold score - at least 453;

An international certificate confirming the knowledge of a foreign language by a person for whom the indicated languages ​​are native is not required;

 

 

PhD degree:

  • Passport;
  • A document on the previous level of education with a transcript and an appendix (if available) and a notarized translation into Kazakh or Russian or English (bachelor's or specialist diploma with an average score of at least 3.0 (out of 4.0) GPA or its equivalent obtained in educational institutions;
  • Motivational essay in Kazakh or Russian or English;
  • 2 letters of recommendation in Kazakh or Russian or English from the educational organization in which the applicant studied, or from the employer;
  • A medical certificate for study abroad, as well as a medical certificate confirming the absence of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV infection) and AIDS, issued by official health authority of the applicant's country of residence;
  • Application form;

  • Substantiation of the topic of the dissertation research in the language of instruction (Kazakh or Russian or English);
  • An international certificate confirming knowledge of a foreign language:

English: IELTS Academic (International English Language Testing System Academic) threshold score - at least 5.5;

TOEFL IBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-based test), threshold score - at least 46;

TOEFL PBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language Paper-based test), threshold score - at least 453;

 


 

International Olympiad for foreign applicants

 

The Olympiad is held in an online format and consists of 2 rounds: the first round is the Olympiad in mathematics, physics and English on the Class Marker (https://www.classmarker.com) online platform, the second round is an online interview with a committee.

Participants:

  • Only non-citizens of Kazakhstan may participate.
  • Only high school graduating class of 2022.

 

Republican subject Olympiad for foreign enrollee will be held in English language in 3 subjects: mathematics, physics and English. Attention! The participant must pass all three subjects.

After summing up the results of the Olympiad, the winners of the first, second and third places will be determined. Winners of the Olympiad receive the following discounts to study on undergraduate programs at KBTU:
