FOR STUDENTS

DISTANT LEARNING, LEAVING DORMITORY AND OTHER ISSUES

Dear students!

Due to the developed unfavourable situation with coronavirus all universities of the country switched to the online learning mode.

Starting from March 16, 2020 KBTU transferred to the online form of education. The educational process does not stop, but you do not need to come to the university building as classes will be continued to be conducted in the online format.

We provide training with the help of information-communication technologies “Microsoft 365 for education” and “G Suite for education” from Google, make use of Skype, MOODLE, ZOOM, Telegram and e-mail for KBTU students regardless of their whereabouts. All the study materials and weekly tasks are uploaded in the Uninet system.

Out-of-town and foreign students, including those residing in the KBTU dormitory and rented apartments can return home if they have such an opportunity.

In order to support students in this difficult period, KBTU students were paid out their March monthly study allowance and also social aid for orphan children and children left without parental custody beforehand, on March 16, 2020.

Since March 18, 2020 in connection with the imposition of the state of emergency and precautionary measures in the country:

1)      At entering the territory of the dormitory, the Security service performs thermometry (temperature control) by means of thermovision device.

2)      All students staying at the dormitory are under the quarantine.

3)      The access to the territory of the dormitory is restricted until 22:00.

4)      Exit from the dormitory is permitted only in order to get to the food shop or a pharmacy.

5)      A log book of entrance and leaving times is endorsed at the dormitory entrance post of the Security service; at this it is recommended not to leave the dormitory for more than 1 hour.

6)      unauthorized people are not allowed to enter the dormitory.

7)      All sports and other group activities are prohibited at the territory of the dormitory. The sports court is closed.

3.       It is also important to know that at the imposed state of emergency in the country, work of all trade objects, not related with food produce is limited. Cinemas, theatres, night clubs, sports clubs, exhibitions and other objects of mass gathering are closed.

On the part of KBTU students, they must realize the scale of the problem and responsibility during the self-study period.

During the online study period the KBTU students must:

  • Be daily online with the teachers by means of online lectures, video-lectures, online courses;
  • Complete tasks individually on daily basis and send them to their teachers;
  • Be constantly online with the dean’s offices and dean’s representatives. Do not switch off mobile phones!
  • Follow the rules of academic honesty;
  • Dean’s offices and Office registrar will constantly monitor the process of conducting online classes and the activity of the students in completing their tasks.

 

We ask you to:

  • Strictly follow recommendations on prophylactics of the coronavirus infection;
  • Stop visiting places of mass gatherings;
  • Stop any physical contacts like handshakes, embraces, kisses and other forms of contact.
  • Do not leave the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan;
  • Limit traveling within the Republic of Kazakhstan;
  • In case of finding symptoms of cold-related diseases (high fever, blocked nose, cough, sore throat)) it is necessary to contact the doctor at the place of registration immediately.

The situation requires unity, readiness and coordinated teamwork from our staff.

  • Creating the required conditions for students with the aim of continuous education process;
  • Providing safe conditions for students, teachers and employees.

KBTU management works with the authorized body and local executive authority for solving the arising questions.

Today’s stiatus:

  1. All types of business trips, personal trips of KBTU JSC employees to foreign countries were canceled and movement across the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan for the period of quarantine is maximally limited.
  2. In order to ensure the continuity of the KBTU operations, an Operations Headquarters (crisis management team) has been established
  3. All meetings / discussions with employees, meetings with contractors and other persons are carried out through telephone and video-conferencing.
  4. From March 16, 2020, all structural divisions of KBTU were transferred to electronic document management.

ONLINE STUDY PERIOD

 

Q: Will the online study period last until April 15, 2020 in accordance with the orders on the emergency state?

A: KBTU management closely follows the situation in the world and the country, as health and safety of students, teachers and employees is our main priority. We follow all the state instructions related to the ES. In case of any changes in the situation you will be informed. 

Q: What do I do if my teacher does not cope with the tools of distant learning?

A: Please be patient and flexible, everybody is training and gets better with time and practice. Take the initiative to give some valuable recommendations to the teacher as a feedback.

Q: Cab I stay in the online study mode until the end of the spring semester 2020?

A: Everybody is following one mode. When the period of online study mode is over, all the classes will be transferred to the intramural form.

Q: Can I take a midterm and a final exam earlier than it is set and in the online mode, as I have already left Kazakhstan?

A: No. All exams will be held on the dates indicated in the academic calendar.

Q: How and when can I get a transcript/ reference from the State Centre for Pension Payment/ work place reference?

A: In order to limit the spread of the coronavirus infection it was decided to suspend work of all the enterprises and organizations from March 30 until April5 in Almaty. Due to this, we inform you that issuance of the references on request and for allowances or transcripts is suspended.

Issuance of references, transcripts will recommence from April 7, 2020.

We request that you indicate your telephone number or email during submission of the applications as photos of the documents will be sent to you via whatsApp or email.

COVID-19

 

Coronavirus infection COVID-19 – is an infectious disease associated by the new coronavirus that has not been detected in people before.

The influence of the current virus leads to the development of respiratory flu-like disease with such symptoms as cough, fever and, in more severe cases, pneumonia. In order to protect yourself, you should wash hands often and not touch your face with hands.

 

HOW INFECTION IS SPREAD

 

The new coronavirus is mainly spread as a result of contact with the infected person while coughing or sneezing or by air-borne transmission while inhaling the droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose of the infected person.

 

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF CORONAVIRUS?

 

Coronavirus contaminates lungs. The symptoms of the disease start with high fever, sore throat and then dry cough appears that leads to the difficult breathing.

According to the observations of scientists, the symptoms are developed on the average, in five days from the moment of contagion, however, this period may be longer in some people.

WHO informs that the latent period may be up to 14 days, however, doctors say that it may be extended to 24 days.

 

HOW CAN YOU PROTECT YOURSELF FROM CORONAVIRUS?

 

- often wash hands using alcohol-based sanitizer or soap with water;

- mind coughing etiquette: (keep the distance, cover your mouth while coughing and sneezing with disposable tissues or clothes and wash hands);

- cover your mouth and nose while coughing and sneezing with a bent elbow or disposable tissues, then immediately throw the used paper tissues into waste bins and wash your hands thoroughly;

- avoid close contact with feverish and coughing ill people;

-  avoid crowded gathering places;

- immediately call for medical assistance at high fever, cough and labored breathing,

- avoid close contact with animals, birds, mammals at farms, contact zoos or wild nature;

- refrain from consuming raw or half-cooked products of animal origin, sea food. According to the safety rules of food products, be careful with raw meat, milk or organisms of animal origin in order to avoid cross contamination of the cooked food with raw produce.

 

INFORMATION FOR STUDETNS, TEACHING STAFF AND EMPLOYEES

 

Starting from 08:00 on March 16, 2020 until 07:00 on April 15, 2020 an emergency state is imposed on the territory of the entire RoK by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated March 15, 2020 “On imposition of the state of emergency in the Republic of Kazakhstan”

Based on the decision of the State committee on emergency state administration under the President of RoK, starting from March 19, 2020 a quarantine is enforced in Nur-Sultan and Almaty cities.

Additional restrictive preventive and anti-epidemic measures were introduced by the decision of the State Committee in the cities of Nur-Sultan and Almaty from March 30 to April 5, 2020. Additional measures to strengthen the quarantine regime in the city of Almaty were introduced by the Operational Headquarters on emergency state administration under the akim’s office of Almaty (protocol No. 6 of March 27, 2020)

KBTU management is closely monitoring the situation in the world and the country, since the health and safety of students, teachers and staff are our top priority.


KBTU takes all measures to ensure the safety of students and university employees, as well as to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection.
We believe that we will pass this tough period of life safely! Keep calm and maintain the study discipline. Do not give way to panic and provocative actions. Take care of yourself and your close ones!

Recommendations and restrictions

  1. All employees, students and visitors are obliged to do the following at the entrance to the territory of the university and dormitory:
  • clean your hands with anti-septic solution;
  • wear protection means (medical masks, face respirators);
  • measure temperature by means of thermovision device at entering the territory of university and dormitory;
  • refrain from visiting places of mass gathering of people;
  • refrain from handshakes, kisses, hugs and other forms of physical contact.

 

  1. At identifying signs of acute respiratory virus infection, flu, high fever all employees and students must:

- stay at home and call ambulance 103;

- inform about disease to the medical service of the university and your immediate manager.

  1. Students residing at the dormitory must follow the strict regime of self-isolation, in particular:
  • Stay in your rooms and limit visitation of other rooms in the dormitory;
  • Do not gather more than 4 persons in one room;
  • Limit leaving the territory of the dormitory except for the times when you go shopping to the local food shops and pharmacies;
  • Avoid visiting places of mass gathering and moving by public transport and taxi;
  • Minimize time of staying outside the territory of the dormitory (recommended time not more than 1 hour);

Only the citizens of the countries with which Kazakhstan resumed direct air communication can enter the territory of Kazakhstan during the period of the quarantine restrictions, in addition to those who have permission granted by the Interdepartmental Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan (the permission of the Interdepartmental Commission is not required for students).

Please note that students should come under study visa (C9 category) issued in the consulate of Kazakhstan in their countries of residence strictly. There is no possibility to obtain the initial visa while being in Kazakhstan, you can only extend your current visa within the country borders.

International employees from countries with visa-free regimes can apply for their initial work visas (C3 category) in their countries as well as in Kazakhstan. However, if their country has not visa-free regime with Kazakhstan for certain amount of days, they must apply for initial visa strictly in their countries of residence. In case the country of residence is not the state where the employee from, then a copy of   document should be presented proving the legal grounds of stay in the current country (visa, permanent residence permit etc).

NB! The visa-free regime of entry, stay and departure from Kazakhstan has been suspended for foreign citizens of 57 countries until 1 May 2021 in accordance with the Resolution of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan. For more details contact local Embassy of Kazakhstan.
