KBTU Faculty of Energy and Oil and Gas (FEOGI) team secured the second place in the Student Energy Challenge intellectual contest organized by the Kazenergy Association and Shell Kazakhstan in Nur-Sultan.
Student Energy Challenge innovative ideas contest was held in Nur-Sultan within the framework of the XI Kazenergy Youth Forum “Youth and Challenges of the Time”, which is part of Kazakhstan Energy Week 2019 - one of the main events of the country's oil and gas sector. It is organized by the Kazenergy Association with the support of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The purpose of the Student Energy Challenge is to support the most promising and vibrant energy-related projects created by students of Kazakhstani universities. The prize fund of the competition is five million tenge.
This year, four thematic areas were selected: reducing emissions into the environment, waste management and recycling, digitalization, energy conservation and energy efficiency in the oil and gas industry. A record number of teams-70 teams--participated in the competition. Out of these teams, only nine reached into the semifinal on September 23. Among them three were from the KBTU namely- FEOGI, Fam and Dream Team.
Based on the results of project defense and discussion, the jury determined the following teams were to enter the final that was held on September 24:
• Innovation WKATU, West Kazakhstan Agrarian and Technical University named after Zhangir Khan (Uralsk);
• Wind of Change, Nazarbayev University (Nur-Sultan);
• FEOGI, Kazakh-British Technical University (Almaty).
In the Student Energy Challenge finals, team representatives performed in a compressed elevator pitch format. As a result, the FEOGI team, consisting of 2nd year students of the KBTU faculty of Energy and Oil and Gas Industry, took the Second place in the competition with the Cockroach Farm project and won a prize of USD 5,000. Also on September 24, the KBTU Rector Kenzhebek Ibrashev spoke at the panel session of the forum “Youth and Challenges of the Times” in face to face format. As part of the forum’s discussion agenda, experts and participants answered questions such as “what is high-quality education, what new formats for obtaining qualifications does the educational services market offer, what skills in the digital age are most important for personal growth and development, how not to lose oneself in the world of big data, new technologies and the information boom?”
