Employees of the Kazakhstan BTU (KBTU) completed an intensive course on the ISO 27001 standard, organized with the support of the world's leading educational centers - Janser Academy and TÜV Rheinland Academy in Germany. The training, which took place from April 26 to May 4, 2024, was an important step in establishing a sustainable approach to ensuring the university’s information security. This is the first group from Kazakhstan to successfully pass the international certification ISO 27001, accredited by TÜV Rheinland Academy in Germany.

This course was organized within the framework of the KBTU SDG Center by the KBTU Project Groups and with the support of the KBTU Department of Continuing Education. ISO 27001 is an international standard that defines the requirements for an information security management system, which will become a mandatory component for all universities in the Republic of Kazakhstan in the near future.

Course participants acquired not only theoretical knowledge of the principles and requirements of the ISO 27001 standard, but also practical skills in its implementation and maintenance, which will enable the university to strengthen its information security systems and increase its competitiveness in the educational sector. The staff and management of KBTU, as the best technical university in the country, confirmed their skills and their commitment to modern global challenges in the field of digitalization and security in IT. During passing the certification exam, Katja Kaiser, Director of the TUV Rheinland Accreditation Center, specially arrived to ensure transparency and compliance with the standards of the ISO27001 accreditation exam. In addition, this course will provide KBTU with the necessary knowledge and skills for the university to successfully pass accreditation and certification according to the ISO 27001 standard, and project work will also begin on its implementation in the university environment.
