In 2021, Kazakhstan, due to the high quality standard of education at the Faculty of KMA KBTU, entered the white list of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). This significant step confirms the high level of training of Kazakhstani sailors and contributes to strengthening the country's position in the international arena in the field of maritime transport.
In connection with this achievement, the university has taken active steps to expand international cooperation in the field of maritime education. Thanks to the initiative of the university in front of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan, negotiations on the conclusion of interstate agreements with 82 maritime countries of the world were launched. To date, such agreements have already been recognized by countries such as Panama, the Marshall Islands, and recently Azerbaijan.
On March 11, 2024, during the visit of the Head of State to the Republic of Azerbaijan, an important Agreement was signed between the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport of the Republic of Azerbaijan on mutual recognition of professional diplomas of crew members of ships.
This agreement has been developed in full compliance with the requirements of the International Convention on the Training and Certification of Seafarers and Watchkeeping, which is included in the "White List" of both Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan. The signing of this agreement means mutual recognition of seafarers' professional diplomas by both countries, which in turn will allow Kazakh sailors to work on ships under the flag of Azerbaijan, expanding career opportunities and international experience.
In addition, work on expanding international cooperation in the field of recognition of seafarers' professional diplomas continues with other countries. For example, under an agreement with Liberia, an outgoing letter with the number 30-48 was sent from the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Liberia on January 30, 2024.
Regarding the Bahamas, an outgoing letter with the number 27-27/47743 was sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on November 6, 2023. In order to resolve issues related to the recognition of seafarers' diplomas, Turkey will be submitted to the intergovernmental commission for consideration in early April
