On December 14, the Kazakh-British Technical University hosted the international conference "Universities and Climate Change. The SCO territory". The plenary session brought together leading experts and academic figures from the countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization to discuss issues related to innovation, the development of key competencies and the training of a new generation of professionals.
The meeting was opened by Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Issakhov Assylbek Abdiashimovich and told the conference participants about KBTU's contribution to the climate agenda.
The conference discussed topical issues of sustainable development and interaction between universities and business in the context of the green economy.
The first session focused on strategies for interaction between universities, government and business in the context of the low-carbon agenda. The interim results of the COP 28 World Climate Conference and their impact on Kazakhstan were summarized at the session.
The second session was devoted to discussing specific steps taken by universities to implement sustainable development in education and science. Experts and academic figures examined the role of universities as centers of innovation and development of competencies necessary for effective functioning in the modern economy.
The conference participants agreed to form a resolution reflecting the key points of the discussions, which will be published on the conference website in the near future.
