In the Republican educational and recreation center "Baldauren" in Konaev, from July 8 to 13, 2023, the I Republican field Olympiad for young geologists was held.

The event was organized by Kazakhmys Barlau LLP and the Zhas Geologist Corporate Fund. The event received support from the Committee of Geology of the MIID RK, the Akimat of Almaty Region, Kazakhmys Corporation, ERG LLP, Kazzinc LLP, and other companies. More than 200 participants representing 16 teams from all regions of Kazakhstan took part in the Olympiad. Young geologists competed in knowledge of paleontology, mineralogy, petrography, the compilation of geological sections, the completion of geological routes, and other geological disciplines.

According to the competition results, the first place was awarded to the team "Sarmat" from Uralsk, the second place to the team "Geobyte" from the city of Kostanay, and the third place to the team "Saryarka" from Karaganda.

In the individual competition, Aitbai Anar from Astana, Ospan Ayan from Astana, and Amanzhol Dias from Karaganda were granted scholarships to study at KBTU. Vice-rector for social and educational issues of KBTU, Smolyakova E.S., personally handed out the grants to the winners.

The closing ceremony was attended by the Chairman of the Committee of Geology of the MIID RK, Yerlan Akbarov, Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences, Baltabek Kuandykov, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Zhas Geologist Corporate Fund, Galym Nurzhanov, and the General Director of ERG Exploration LLP, Azamat Shalabaev.
