On August 16-19, KBTU hosted a free summer video game development school GameLab KBTU for all game development enthusiasts. Out of more than 150 applicants, 55 people defended their projects and received certificates of completion of the school.

During the school, students prepared concept documents for their games, explored game markets, developed production plans and content matrices, and even put together demos on Unity and Unreal Engine. According to the results of 18 pitches, three teams received prizes for the best game projects, and the other two were awarded with special nominations. All of them were awarded valuable prizes from the school's partner Meloman/MARWIN. Teams will be able to continue working on promising game projects under the mentorship of GameLab KBTU - the laboratory experts will be able to support young developers in bringing games to release.

Within the framework of the school, Dr. William Huber from Abertay University held a workshop on paper prototyping of game mechanics, HR partner of Wargaming Diana Bisembayeva shared insiders on how to get into game dev and be successful there, Abzal Akhmedzhanov from Garena showed methods for researching the PC games market using open sources, and Amal Isabekov from Sperasoft made overview of game engines. Also at the school were employees of the Gamelab KBTU laboratory and teachers of the new game dev track of the KBTU IT Faculty. The school ended with a party in the courtyard of KBTU with an informal discussion of projects with experts, board games and even a mini-championship from Meloman/MARWIN on Mortal Kombat on Sony Playstation.
