On November 12, a meeting between top management of the Kazakh-British Technical University with the Consul General of Afghanistan in Almaty and the Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Afghanistan took place. The meeting participants discussed potential expansion of cooperation in the area of trainings development for young professionals and exchange of experience between the countries.
The Consul General in Almaty, Mr. Wais Payab, the Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Afghanistan Talgat Kaliyev and other meeting participants discussed with Rector of KBTU, Kenzhebek Ibrashev, a number of issues regarding the prospects for further cooperation between educational institutions of Afghanistan and Kazakhstan, in particular, preparation personnel for Afghanistan in demanded specialties, as well as advanced training of Afghan teachers, the organization of internships on the basis of KBTU and trainings on leadership and entrepreneurship skills.
The EU funded initiative aimed at providing educational opportunities for Afghan women - “Supporting the Economic Empowerment of Afghan Women through Education and Training in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan” - was also presented at the meeting. The project runs under a €2 million grant provided by the European Union (EU) to support Afghan women in their strive for higher education. The project is implemented by UNDP. In total, 50 Afghan women will obtain higher, technical and vocational education at various universities across Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan by 2025. To date, 19 Afghan women, recipients of the scholarship, are studying at KBTU. Shazia Nowrozy, a TVET programme student at KBTU’s Business School, has greeted the meeting participants on behalf of Afghan women, participants of the project. Shazia expressed her gratitude to project partners for the opportunity to obtain education at higher educational establishments of Kazakhstan.
As part of the meeting, KBTU has organized an excursion for guests around the university and visits to laboratories such as Nanotechnology, Bloomberg, Honeywell in compliance with sanitary standards.
