The dates for the upcoming 9th chess tournament, «KBTU Open», have been announced. It will take place from June 27 to July 3, 2023.
The winners in the “open” and “girls” sections will be awarded a scholarship to study at Kazakh-British Technical University for any educational program throughout their four years of study!
The competition is primarily intended for students graduating in 2023 from grades 9-11, with a minimum grade of one, as well as college students with a grade of one or higher. However, under special conditions, school students and applicants who don't fall within these criteria can also participate.
This tournament, which is being held for the ninth time, used to only grant scholarships to Kazakhstan chess players. However, starting in 2017, this restriction has been lifted, making the tournament international. Moreover, participants may even fulfill the norm for an international title based on their performance in the competition.
The tournament is organized by the School of Natural and Social Sciences of Kazakh-British Technical University and the student group “Chess Makers”. The “Chess Makers” group regularly organizes chess competitions at KBTU, with the support of the KBTU Rectorate.
