The Kazakhstan-British Technical University (KBTU) has become one of the founding members of the Energy Education Alliance (CCAEEC), a new international platform for cooperation in energy education, research, and engineering talent development. The Alliance brings together leading universities, research institutions, and representatives of the energy industry from China and Central Asian countries.
The founding meeting of the Alliance was held in Urumqi as part of the China–Central Asia Conference on Industry–Academia–Research–Application Collaboration (CCACIARAC), organized with the support of the Department of Education of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The conference served as one of the key platforms for dialogue between universities, government institutions, and industry on workforce development and the advancement of academic and research cooperation in the energy sector.
The Alliance includes fourteen founding organizations representing China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan. Its members comprise specialized universities, research institutions, and energy companies. Kazakhstan is represented by two leading industry-focused universities: the Kazakhstan-British Technical University (KBTU) and Atyrau University of Oil and Gas.
The establishment of the Energy Education Alliance marks a new stage of cooperation between universities in Central Asia and China. The Alliance will focus on developing joint academic programs, expanding academic mobility, conducting collaborative research, implementing international projects, strengthening cooperation with industry partners, and preparing highly qualified specialists for the oil and gas sector, as well as traditional and renewable energy industries.
At the founding meeting, Saule Tlevlessova, Vice-Rector for Internationalization at KBTU, addressed the participants on behalf of the universities of Central Asia, emphasizing the importance of international academic partnerships in educating the next generation of engineers and researchers.
“The greatest wealth of our countries is our people and the younger generation, who will shape our shared future. Today, we planted a tree, and we look forward to seeing it bear fruit.”
Following the official ceremony, the KBTU delegation held working meetings with the leadership of China University of Petroleum (Beijing) Karamay Campus (CUPK) and representatives of CNPC. The discussions focused on moving from individual initiatives toward a long-term strategic partnership.
As a result of the meetings, the parties confirmed their intention to develop a cooperation roadmap covering student and faculty academic mobility, the launch of joint educational programs, collaborative research, joint publications, participation in international grant-funded projects, and the establishment of joint laboratories involving industrial partners.
One of the first practical outcomes was an invitation for KBTU students and faculty members to participate in the international Geological Summer Camp organized by CUPK. The parties also discussed the development of regular academic exchange programs, joint language initiatives, short-term educational courses, and internship opportunities.
KBTU's participation in the establishment of the Energy Education Alliance represents an important step in implementing the university's internationalization strategy and strengthening its position within the global academic community. The new cooperation platform creates opportunities for long-term academic and research projects, expands prospects for students and faculty, and contributes to sustainable partnerships between universities, research institutions, and industry across China and Central Asia.
