The ShallQar engineering team of Kazakh-British Technical University achieved strong results at the international Shell Eco-Marathon 2026, held from January 21 to 25 in Doha, Qatar, at the Lusail International Circuit.

Competing among 34 international teams, KBTU placed 12th in the Energy Efficiency and Speed category, demonstrating the global competitiveness of Kazakhstani engineering education.

Technical Results

During the race, the team’s prototype achieved:

140 km/kWh energy efficiency;
4 laps (14.56 km) completed in 23 minutes;
an average speed of 60 km/h;
a fully electric powertrain;
a teardrop-shaped aerodynamic body recognized by Shell Eco-Marathon organizers.
Three-Year Development and Participation Path

The ShallQar team developed the project over three years, participating in the competition annually and continuously improving the vehicle:

2024 — first participation and initial prototype;
2025 — major redesign and successful technical inspection;
2026 — international stage in Qatar and a Top-12 finish.
The team includes students from Years 1 to 4, ensuring knowledge transfer and sustainable project development.

Support and Future Plans

The project was implemented with the support of KBTU, School of IT and Engineering, KBTU Endowment, and partner companies Supros | Yeta.

The ShallQar team aims to further develop the project and target a Top-10 global ranking at future Shell Eco-Marathon competitions.
