Faculty of Information Technologies of KBTU informs about the upcoming momentous event of the year – semi-finals of the International Olympiad on programming ACM ICPC – world championship on programming among students’ teams (https://icpc.baylor.edu).
On December 1, 2019 in the 4 cities (Saint-Petersburg, Barnaul, Almaty, Tbilisi) a final round of the international Olympiad on programming among students’ teams in the Northern Eurasia region will take place (http://neerc.ifmo.ru). The Almaty round will occur in the premises of the Kazakh-British Technical University (at the address: Tole bi street 59). The Agenda of the Olympiad is posted on the site: http://icpc.acm.kz.
In the era of digitalization of all the spheres of life that covers the entire world, such massive intellectual competitions obtain peculiar significance for the youth, including Kazakhstan where the year 2019 was announced as a year of youth.
Northern Eurasia Region includes University teams almost from all the CIS countries (except Ukraine and Moldova). It is expected to admit about 300 teams that gained the right to participate in the qualifying rounds in their sub-regions in October-November 2019. About 80 teams from Kazakhstan (40), Kyrgyzstan (15), Uzbekistan (20) and Tajikistan (5) will present themselves in Almaty. (For information: there were 60 teams in the semi-finals in 2018). It is expected the round to be conducted in 4 cities simultaneously due to the vast scale of the geography of the participating countries. The Semi-finals in Almaty on the 1st of December are also the finals for the Central Asia championship.
According to the results of the semi-finals, 17 best teams will reach the finals of the World Championship on programming ACM ICPC that will take place in June 2020 in Russia. The strongest students’ teams from 140 universities of the world will take part in it.
On history and participants of the previous years
In 2019 the ACM ICPC Championship celebrates its 42nd anniversary. During these years it became a significant stage in the career development of the students from all around the world. The participants from Kazakhstan annually prove their competitiveness and become quite a success in the international scale. Many Kazakhstani people, who have previously participated in the Olympiad, are now providing their services to literally all the people around the world, working for such companies as Google, Microsoft, Booking.com, Facebook and many others. Many of the strongest players of the past hold leading positions in the national IT companies.
For the 16 years of participation in ACM ICPC Kazakhstani Universities reached the finals of the WC: KBTU – 6 times (in 2006, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2018 and 2019), MUIT three times (in 2013, 2014, 2019), Nazarbayev University twice (in 2014, 2015), KazNU+Satbayev University once (in 2007).
